Drakensberg Mountains

Big ride!

Today, we drove to All Out Adventures, who operate a network of MTB trails at the foot of the Drakensberg mountains. Kyriakos borrowed a bike and we started on the Berghouse loop, the most difficult trail there. The most memorable aspects were definitely the countless river crossings (we both had wet feet for most of the day) and the amazing scenery.

see you soon! BEN

While not overly technical, it was quite bumpy. I surely appreciated the extra volume of my fat tire.

A long uphill on grassy terrain (a pain for unicycles) was really exhausting and we were happy to arrive at Montusi Mountain Lodge, where we had lunch. By then, Kyriakos was very tired and decided to take an easy and direct trail back to return the bike in time, so I was on my own for the last 15 km of the Berghouse loop.

Here are some impressions:

Back at the car, I met Kyriakos who was now well rested and we decided to try a part of the Grotto trail. Kyriakos was now hiking so I could take it a bit more relaxed on my muni. The Grotto trail was closer to the mountains and spoiled us with great views. Fun to ride, too. The Dutoits downhill brought us finally back to the street. This was by far my favorite trail so far as it was very technical with lots of big and loose rocks. When we arrived at our place, it was already dark. In total about 50 km and 1500 m elevation, what a day!
Cheers BEN
